
Objective: To describe characteristics of unintentional injuries among students of some junior high schools in Thai Binh city and Vu Thu District, Thai Binh Province, 2014. Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 8 junior high schools of Thai Binh city and Vu Thu district. Interviewed 633 students reported being unintentional injury during last year. Results: Injuries were occurred the highest at home (39,0 percent); following was at school (28,8 percent) and on the street was 13,1 percent. The cause of injury was falls (45.2 percent); followed by traffic accidents (11.4 percent) and cutting by sharp objects (7.9 percent). Lesions were: bruises, scratches, open wounds, cuts (55.7 percent); sprains, dislocated joints (15.5 percent); fractures (6.3 percent) and bum (3.8 percent). Conclusion: The most common place of injuries was at home, (followed by the school. Three common causes of non-fatal injuries among junior high school students were falls, traffic accidents and other sharp objects. More than a fifth of students had been injured as sprains, dislocated joints or fractures.
