
Purpose: To investigate the use of double string Mersilene 4/0 suture as a frontalis sling in patient with congenital ptosis. Method: In a retrospectively reviewed all patients with congenital ptosis and poor elevator function were underwent frontalis sling using double string mersilene 4/0 suture combined with eyelid creases performed from January 2006 through December 2008 in pediatric department at VNIO. Results: There were 84 ptotic eye of 64 patients (34 men and 30 women) with an age range from 2 years to 24 years (average age was 7.5 + 4.3). Mean time follow up was 22.6 months (9-39 months). Twenty patients with bilateral congenital ptosis and 44 patients with monolateral ptosis. Good results of ptosis correction were in 72 eyes (86.9 percent), 10 eyes were fair and one eye was poor result. Good eyelid crease were in 86.9 percent. Extrusion and granuloma complications were not found; mild lagophthalmos was in 38.1 percent; Eyelid lax was in 92.9 percent. Conclusions:, double string Mersilene 4/0 suture is an alternative available for management of severe congenital ptosis.
