Aims: To evaluate the outcome of surgical treatments of steroid-induced glaucoma in children at Vietnam national institute of ophthalmology (VNIO). Methods: Retrospective and cross-sectional descriptive study has been applied. 65 eyes of 41 children with steroid induced glaucoma underwent glaucoma surgical treatments in VNIO from 1/2005 to 12/2009 were included. Mean time of follow up was 30 months (range from 6 months to 54 months). Results: At the time of surgery mean age was 11.4 + or - 4.13, range from 3 to 16 years. Sex: male 82.9 percent and female 17.1 percent. Bilateral involvement was 93.2 percent. Preoperative vision acuity (VA): counting finger under 3 m in 36.5 percent, mean intraocular pressure (lOP) is 33.2 + or - 2.91 ranged from 25 to 49 mmHG. After long follow up postoperative (range from 6 months to 54 months) VA was 38.1 percent increased, 31.7 percent decreased and 30.2 percent no changed. Mean lOP is 19.9 + or - 3.28. Successful results of trabeculotrapted surgery was 87.5 percent, Trabeculectomy with antimetabolite was 74.1 percent and trabeculectomy was 70.0 percent. Conclusions: Steroid induced glaucoma in children are very severe, surgical surgery provides a good result.
