
The study was conducted at two factories in Thai Nguyen iron and steel corporation. The dust pollution was very severe at these factories. The dust concentrations were 5-30 times higher than the MAC with hight content of free silica varying between 22.4-26.4 percent and the respirable dust rate was high (49.5-53.3 percent)… then surely presenting high risk of getting silicosis. The new simple mask KT4-5L was designed and applied. The experimental results at the laboratory showed that the mask KT4-5L was able to filter 90-92 percent of respirable dust (0.4-5um particle size), resulting in the reduction of risk of getting silicosis. The mask was applied to the field (used by workers of both factories) and universally approved and highly appreciated.
