Background: Fungal nail infections affect a significant proportion of the population. There currents treatment options of onychomycosis have limited efficacy, relatively restrictive and potentially danger-ous. Recently some reports are showing the efficacy of laser in treatment of onychomycosis.Case Report: the authors describe the first case of Candida albican onychomycosis, successfully treated with 2 sessions of 1064nm Q-Switched laser Nd:YAG. The effectiveness of treatment was verified by a negative control sample at 1 month and clinical photograph 3 months follow up. Discussion: The theory of treatment of onychomycosis with laser is possibly thermal effect on fungal cells. Q-Switched Nd:YAG laser is dynamic laser, especially for pigmented skin lesions such as freckle, Ota nevus, tattoo. Its mode of action in the treatment of onychomycosis could be a selective destruction effect. The treatment is quick, simple, reasonable cost without side effects. This case's main interest is in participating a new way of onychomycosis treatment.
