
Reducing the size of smooth muscle tumors of the uterus is one of the important criteria evaluation of the effectiveness of uterine artery embolization (UAE). Study was carried on 100 patients with uterine smooth muscle tumor was intravascular intervention by UAE in 108 military central hospital and 103 hospital from 4/2008 to 10/2010. The result showed that: rate of average size and volume reduction of the tumor after 3 months: 34.8 percent and 66.2 percent; after 6 months: 50.0 and 79.5 percent; 9 months: 56.5 and 83.7 percent; 12 months: 69.1 and 86.6 percent. 29,5 percent had no image of the tumor in ultrasound after 12 months. The tumor with much vascular proliferation more reduced in size (37.9 percent after 3 months) than vascular medium proliferation did (down 9.8 percent after 3 months), p 0.05. The tumor in the muscular wall and mucosa also more decreased in size after 3 months significantly (40.5 percent) than the tumors underlying serosa (9.7 percent) did, p 0.01.
