Test of HBsAg (Hepatitis B surface antigen) for screening patients with hepatitis B has a high sensitive. Determination of serum HBV-DNA (Hepatitis B virus - Deoxyribonucleic acid) level is now a best test for diagnostic and following treatment of patients with hepatitis B. Objective:(l) Evaluation of serum HBsAg reactive test by immunoassay machines in screening patients with hepatitis B in Viet Duc Hospital. (2) In comparison with serum HBsAg test, Determination of serum HBV-DNA levels and other related tests such as ALT. Subjects: 6404 blood samples done HBsAg test on the machines Roche Cobas 6000 or Architect i1000 and 248 blood samples were done of the HBV-DNA test on the systems Cobas AmpliPrep/ Cobas Taqman 48. Results: 696 blood samples have HBsAg reactive, percentage is 10.9 percent. 4 percent blood samples with HBsAg weak reactive were further tested by additional method. From that 17.9 percent of samples with none reactive results of the second method. Level below 2 x 10 exponent 3 IU/mL of serum HBV-DNA is 46.4 percent and level of serum HBV-DNA over 106 IU/mL is 23.4 percent of total blood samples done by the tests, respectively. Conclusion: Test of HBsAg is necessary for screening hepatitis B for all patients examinated and treated in Viet Duc Hospital. Blood samples with HBsAg weak reactive should be further tested by other method. Test of serum HBV DNA levels and ALT should be done in patiens with Hepatitis B.
