Purpose: To evaluate the long-term prognostic impact of plasma Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) and DNA concentration measured by real-time quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RTQ-PCR) nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients receiving concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT). Methods and Materials: Epstein-Barr virus DNA was retrospectively measured of 34 NPC patients with stage II-III disease before and after treatment. Results: Epstein-Barr virus DNA (median concentrationrange from 510-335,000 copies/ml) was detected in the pretreatment plasma of 64.7 percent of patients. After treatment, plasma EBV- DNA decreased in 14.7 percent of patients. Correlation coefficient of EBV-DNA concentration and rate of respond were RR+2,89291, p = 0.0663. It demands to continue follow-up these patients.
