
The aim of the study was to evaluate the effects of yoga on the capacity of physical activity of the elderly. The study was conducted on 49 elderly people and was divided into two groups: control group (n=24), experimental group (n=25). Indicators of the research include: leg strength, hand strength, spinal flexibility, rapidity, endurance and balance the body. The results showed that, in the experimental group, after 3 months of practicing yoga, assessment indicators of capacity of physical activity in the elderly has improved markedly. Such as: leg strength is measured by Chair Stand Test in 30 sec increase from 13.18 +/- 2.50 times to 18.53 +/- 3.65 times; arm strength is measured by Arm Curl Test in 30 sec increased from 15.75 to 20.76 times; spinal flexibility is measured by Chair Sit and Reach Test increased from - 1.58 to 8.52 +/- 4.13 cm:l: 2.19 cm; rapidity is measured by 8Foot Up and Go increased significantly with p0.001; endurance is measured by 6 - Min Walk Test increased from 587,48 +/- 67,47m to 632,82 +/- 61,00m; balance of the body is determined by one leg stand test with eyes closed and open eyes was improved significantly (p 0.001) compared with the previous 3 months; whereas in control group, indicators studied almost unchanged (p0.05).
