Abstract

Background: Conventional IVF has been applied for infertility treatment in Infertility Department of Thanh Hoa OB/GYN since 2007. However, IVF is not working on some. of cases related to sperm quality, abnormal fertilization, unexplained infertility or previous failed with some IVF cycles treatment. Since 2010 IVF/ICSI has been widely indicated for couples who have been in right indication. Method: This prospective pilot study had two objectives: (1) To investigate the success rate of IVF/ICSI for infertility treatment and (2) To explore some factors which can affect the adverse outcome of IVF/ICSI success rate. From which some support ideas that can contribute to improve the effectiveness of IVF/ICSI for infertility treatment. Results: Among 106 IVF/ICSI cycles, 10 cycles had no embryo transfer due to no embryo, frozen all embryos because of ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome or thin endometrium. Mean number of oocytes retrieved was 7.6 (+ or - 4.4), rate of oocyte fertilization was 65.6 percent, mean of good or moderate embryos was 4.0 (+ or - 2.7), mean of number embryo transfer was 3.4 (+ or - 1.7), mean of number frozen embryos was 0.6 (+ or - 01.8). Pregnancies rate was 37.5 percent, ongoing clinical pregnancy rate was 33.3 percent. Factors affecting the outcome of IVF/ICSI mostly related to the quality of embryos, and the most important was fertilization rate due to the skill of ICSI experts. Some solutions have been considered to improve the clinical pregnancy success rate as the skill of ICSI experts, technique of sperm selection, providing more oocyte retrieved within an ovarian stimulation cycle, and applying assisted hatching (AH). Conclusions: The overall the outcome of IVF/ICSI in our department was good but we need to solve some problems above to improve the pregnancy success rate. More studies in this field are needed.
