Background: CML is a common hematopoietic malignancy with characteristic mechanism - the Philadelphia chromosome (Ph1)/fusion gene BCR-ABL. Purpose: To implement FISH technique to identify Ph1 chromosome in CML patients. Patients and methods: Study was carried out on 48 CML patients diagnosed in NIHBT from 2/2011 to 8/2012. Results: (1) Percentage of patients with Ph1 chromosome positive was 100 percent; (2) Level of Ph1 positive at or = 95 percent; 90-94 percent; and 90 percent were 66.7 percent; 31.2 percent and 2.1 percent, respectively; (3) Percentage of typical fusion signal (101G2F) was 93.7 percent; atypical signal patterns were recognized in a small number of patients: additional 1O/G or 1F (2.1 percent and 4.2 percent, respectively). Condusion: FISH is an appropriate technique to identify Ph1 chromosome for making diagnosis of CML patients.
