Purpose: To access the effectiveness of split thickness skin graft and mucous membrane graft for moderate and severe contracted eye socket reconstruction. Methods: A prospective, comparative, randomized study from 2008 to 2009 with 13 male and 27 female patients from 20 to 60 years old having moderate and severe contracted eye sockets, randomly recruited into 2 groups: one group of 22 patients with split thickness skin grafts and one of 18 patients with mucous membrane grafts. Data of contracted grafts, increased socket volume and cosmetic results at 3 months, 6 months and 12 months post-op were recorded. Complications such as bad smell, loss of partial graft and rupture of eye lid sutures were also observed during post-op. Results: There was not statistically significant of increased socket between moderate and severve contracted group regardless of split thickness skin graft or mucous membrane graft.
