Purposes: To assess clinical characteristics and dassification of patients with open glope injuries. Effective methocls and techniques to treat each type of eyeball trauma. Subjects and methodology: Longitudinal, clinical trials, multiple cases without control patients with ocular open glope injuries at the Department of Ophthalmology, Cho Ray Hospital from 01/11/2012 to 31/10/2013. Results: Age: from 18 to 30- 63,4 percent. Gender: Male: 116 (86,6 percent), Female: 18(13,4 percent). The number of males patientS is 6,4 times bigger than that of female patients. Most common causes of open glope injuries. The most common cause is traffic accidents (44,0 percent), then accidents at work 22,4 percent. Visual acuity at the time of admission: 37,5 percent of patients no light perception (NLP), 50,0 percent had visions from light perception to hand motion (LP +), finger-counting (Fe) 1m to 5m: 11,8 percent. Open glope at zone I: 10,3 percent, zone II: 47,1 percent, zone III: 42,6 percent. The Ocular Trauma Score (OTS): Patients with 50 points, accounted for 86,8 percent, mostly in zone II and III. The lower the OTS score is, the worse the prognosis will be ocular preserving treatment: 88/136 eyes. Among them, 11,8 percent underwent trauma cataract surgery. During follow-up, no patient was diagnosed with sympathetic opththalmia. 3 months after discha'rge, 21,3 percent of eyes had visual acuity of finger-counting (Fe) 1mor more. Visions of patients with zone I traumas and treated preservatively had a higher' chance of improvement than those of patients with zone II and III. Condusions: - Open glope injuries are most commonly seen in people from 18 to 60 years old, espedally in those between 18 and 30 (63,4 percent). The gender ratio is 6,4 male/female. The most common cause is traffic accidents (44,0 percent), followed by accidents at work (22,4 percent). Vision loss is normally severe. Using OTS Scale, patients with 50 points account for 86,8 percent. The lower the OTS score is, the worse the prognosis will be. - 88/136 eyes were treated preservatively. patients with zone I have better prognosis. Three months after treatment, 21,3 percent of eyes have visions of PC1 or better.
