
Objectives: Evaluation of the results of extracoporeal shock wave lithotripsy on treatment of upper ureteral stones at Military central hospital No.108. Patients and Methods: From 9/2011 to 3/2012, 51 patients underwent extracoporeal shock wave lithotripsy for upper ureteral stones at Military central hospital 108. Evalue the results and the complications. Results: mean stone size was 10.86 mm (range 8 - 17 mm); stone size 15 mm : 94.1 percent. The procedure was successfully completed in 45 patients (88.2 percent) and intraoperative conversion to open surgery or ureteroscopy was required in 6 patients (11.8 percent). 50 patients (98 percent) were treated only once. No major complication was encountered. EQ index 86,5 percent. Conclusions: The extracoporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) is a safe and effective method for treating upper ureteral stones.
