
Objective: Evaluate the index of antibiotic prescription for outpatient treatment of Bach Mai Hospital. Subject: Includes 80,175 outpatient prescriptions prescribed from the clinical institutes and departments of Bach Mai Hospital in May 2013. Methods of study: cross-sectional descriptive survey. Results and conclusions: The number of prescriptions using 1-5 drugs accounted for 89.93 percent, using 6-10 drugs accounted for 10.05 percent, the prescriptions using 11-15 drugs accounts for 0.02 percent of total prescriptions and no cases of prescription using more than 16 drugs; Rate of antibiotic prescribing for outpatient in the whole of hospital is 29 percent. In particular, some departments prescribed antibiotic at rather high rate such as department of Odonto-stomatology (92.78 percent), Department of Obstetrics (76.97 percent), EarNose-Throat (67.98 percent), ophthalmology (66.94 percent). Dermatology Prescription of antibiotic combination was at the rate of 37.06 percent. In particular, the combined use of two antibiotics is mainly (94.2 percent), the percentage of combination of 3 antibiotics was lower (5.8 percent) and no cases of prescription combined of 4 antibiotics, most the antibiotics are prescribed by oraluse (8.8.32 percent).
