The first case of organ transplantation (Tx) in Vietnam was successfully performed in 1992. Until February 2012, more than 550 cases of kidney Tx have been carried out in 12 hospitals, 20 cases of liver Tx in 4 centers and 4 cases of heart Tx in 3 hospitals. The results of organ transplantation in Vietnam were promisingfor treatment of end-stage organ failure. In recent years, the organ transplantation has been remarkable improved. - Improvements in patient and donor selection, surgical procedures and post-transplant management are required to achieve optimum outcomes for graft function and health of patient. - Increasing of organ donation, communication and capacity of organ Tx centers will gain quickly the number of organ transplantation in Vietnam to improve taking care of health for the people.
