Objectives: Urticaria in children tends to be increasing; some severe urticaria cases in children require hospitalisation. The research on the causes of urticaria in children is still limited. This study was conducted to determine the causes of urticaria in children. Subjects and Methods: This;was a crosssectional study on143 children with urticaria, who were in-patients in the National Hospital of Pediatrics. The children and their families were asked about the suspected causes of urticaria and performed with tests for specific IgE with 13 food allergens and 7 respiratory allergens. Results: The study results showed that the causes of 72.6 percent of the children with urticaria were unknown. In the group of suspected causes for acute urticaria, the most common cause was medication (47.1 percent), followed by weather changes and food allergies. The specific IgE results showed that the proportion of children with milk and milk components allergies was the highest (42.4 percent), followed by respiratory allergens such as dog and cat fur, and house mites. However, there was no association between the suspected cause by questionnaires and the specific IgE test results. Conclusions: The causes of most of urticaria in children are unknown. Specific IgE test is valuable to find the causes of urticaria in children.
