
Objectives: Evaluate of safety and efficacy of laparoscopic rectopexy. Methods: This was a retrospective study of 112 patients with rectal prolapse underwent laparoscopic rectopexy from July 2004 to July 2013 at Cho Ray hospital and University Medical hospital, Ho Chi Minh city. The mean follow - up time was 54,3 months. Results: The mean age is 60,4 (range 16 - 88 years), including 63 females (56,3 percent) and 49 males (43,7 percent). Among these, 12 patients underwent concomitant surgery such as hysteropexy, perineal hysterectomy. The mean operating time was 140,8 minutes (rang 60 - 290 minutes). The mean time of flatus was on 2,5 days. The mean hospital stay was 4,7 days. Postoperative constipation and incontinence was improved 20,4 percent and 63,6 percent respectively. Eight case was recurrence. Complication: Sacral bleeding (2), rectal perforation (1), port site hernia (1 case), port site hematoma (2 case), sexual dysfunction (5). No case of postoperation mortality. Conclusions: Laparoscopic rectopexy is both safe and effective with many advantages of minimally invasive surgery and low recurrence rate.
