
Objective: To determine the value of the diagnostic methods in acute appendicitis and how way to reduce complications and unnecessary appendectomies Material and methods: a meta- analysis to sum up and analyse the results of a lot of studies. The author used software Endnote 1.1 to search for articles published on the U.S. National Library of Medicine - NLM from 1990 to 2009 that related to diagnosis methods in cases suspected an appendicitis and t"en to sum up and to analyse according to the objectives. Results: Finding 289 studies which have published from 1990 to 2009 and be suitable for object. Determine and total up them, there are 3 main methods to diagnose of appendicitis: to be based on only clinical, based on paraclinic examens (ultrasound, CT scan, blood and urine exam,...) and some diagnostic scores. The method basing on the clinic has demonstrated to have the low value to diagnosis of appendicitis if not associate with others methods. Sensitivity and specificity for the clinical diagnosis are all under 80 percent. Of all other methods, ultrasound and CT scanner have best value.
