
In Vietnam, the situation of arsenic contaminated groundwater has been identified in some provinces in the Red River Delta and Cuu Long River Delta. The result of national project "Harm reduction of arsenic in domestic water in Vietnam" was implemented by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment showed that: There was about 19 percent of water samples with content of arsenic that exceeded the national technical standard on groundwater QCVN 09: 2008/BTNMT (from 0.05mg/1 or higher), the percentage was distributed in 792 communes of 95 districts in 10 provinces and cities. According to'result of the study, the content of arcenic in the urine of people was high, the study on 2009 people was carried out through cross-sectional method in 5 provinces with high arcenic contaminated ground water including: Hanoi, Ha Nam and Hung Yen, Dong Thap and Tien Giang; The rate of people with high arsenic concent in urine was 44.2 percent compare to normal level, in which 18.3 percent of the people with arcenic concent is from 0.06 mg/I to 0.08 mg/I and up to 25.9 percent people with arsenic concentration was over 0.8 mg/l of urine. The average of arsenic content in urine tended to increase with age. The average of arsenic content in urine was the highest in the age group of over 60 years old (0.072 + or - 0.003mg/l), while in other groups ranged from 0.049 to 0.065mg/l. The average of arsenic content in urine of men was higher than in urine of women (men: 0.071 + or - 0.002 mg/l, women: 0.061 + or - 0.001 mg/l).
