Background: Dioxins are knowed as risk factor of various kinds of adverse effects health including cardiovascular disease, diabetes mellitus, cancer. The hormone levels are also known to alter by low dose-exposure to dioxins. Purpose: To assess the quantitative steroid hormone level and confirm the correlation between salivary steroids and serum hormone in lactating mothers in dioxin hot-spot area. Subjects and methods: This study has to carry out on 111 lactatating mothers in Phu Cat airbase - one of three dioxin hot-spots area in Viet Nam with using the control group. Results: Cortisol and cortisone levels in serum and also saliva in dioxin hot-spot are higher than those in non-exposed area (p0.0l); there are the positive correlations (r0,63, p0.001) between steroid hormones concentration in serum and saliva. Conclusion: Salivary cortisol, salivay cortisone levels and also in serum in hot-spot area are higher than those in non-exposed area (p0.01). there are the positive correlations (r0,63, p0,001) between steroid hormones concentration in serum and saliva.
