Abstract

Purpose: To evaluate the experience of patients and surgeon during laser flap creation and record flap related complications. Method: The study was performed on 74 eyes of 37 patients. Patients were examined on the level of pain, with or without the loss of felling light and the level of anxiety during laser flap creation. The study examined also on the level of tissue adhesions and complications occurring in surgery as OBL (opaque bubble layer), suction loss, flap eccentric, conjunctival hemorrhage and other complications if any. Result: The average age is 22.42 +/- 3.56. Females accounted for 73 percent, men 27 percent. On a scale of 10, the average level of pain while docking was 5.19 +/- 2.44. The rate of transcient visual loss (black out) during laser flap creation was quite high, about 70.3 percent. 54.1 percent of patients felt worry while creating flap. Mean time of suction-on was 80.64 +/- 19.34 seconds, ranged from 50 to 139 seconds. 91 percent cases of separating flap were implemented easily, only 9 percent of cases had difficulties. Percentage of patients suffered conjunctival hemorrage immediately after surgery accounted for 98.6 percent. 58.1 percent of cases had OBL. 17.6 percent of cases had flap eccentricity. The rate of suction loss accounted for 9.5 percent. Conclusion: Creating flap using Intralase femtosecond laser machine in LASIK surgery eliminates dangerous complications of microkeratome, however there are still some problems needed to be addressed.
