Human subcutaneous dirofilariasis is a zoonotic disease caused by filarial worms of the genus Dirofilaria. Dirofilaria species, D. repens are the most popular one which resides in the subcutaneous tissues and they were already detected in many countries around the world. The parasites are transmitted to man by mosquitoes and the infection is manifested as subcutaneous nodules. Excision of the lesion is both diagnostic and therapeutic. In Vietnam there have been some cases reported with nodule in the right eyelid. Hereby we report a case of dirofilariasis with a subcutaneous nodule in the back. Human subcutaneous dirofilariasis is a rare infection in Vietnam but it is emphasized that both clinicians and parasitologists should have an increased awareness of this entity and include dirofilariasis in the differential diagnosis of patients presenting with subcutaneous nodules.
