
The study was conducted from 2000 to 2003 to examine the risk factors of seiwres due to hypocalcaemia in children with cohort design. The total of 100 children diagnosed with seizure due to hypocalcaemia in National Hospital of Pediatrics were included in this study. The results showcd that there were 60 percent males among 100 children with seizures due to hypocalcaemia. Most of the children were less than 6 months of age (74 percent) and usually had seizures during Spring or transition time between Spring and Summer. Most of children with seizures due to hypocalcaemia had symptoms of rickets (85 percent). Most of children were breastfed and their mothers had no exposure to sun light for the first 3 months postpartum with a strict diet and no supplements of calcium and vitamin D. Conclusions: Risk factors related to seizures due to hypocalcaemia in this study are children less than 6 months of age, spring and beginning of Summer, rickets, breasted child of mothers with strict diet and no exposure to sun light.
