
Bronchial asthma is a major public health problem in the world and affects all age-groups. However, studies on this disease situation in the country is still limited and rarely updated, especially among older people living at community in rural areas. This cross-sectional survey was conducted among 369 older people randomly selected in some sampling stages from communities of Ba Vi district, Hanoi in order to estimate prevalence of bronchial asthma in older people and their socioeconomic groups. Prevalence of bronchial asthma among study subjects is 6.6 percent. It has a tendency of difference by sex, age-groups, education level, living arrangement and household economic status. Marital status and living alone are affected factors of suffering from the disease. Older people are vulnerable subjects, especially the oldest group. Increasing availability and accessibility to services for asthma screening, detection and management at community one platform of improved capacity of health system at grass root levels is necessary.
