Temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is one of the most sophisticated joints with specifications in anatomical and pathological characteristics of the craniofacial region. The pathological changes of the TMJ affect the hard and soft tissue of the joints that can be evaluated by X rays and MRI images. Cone beam computed tomograhphy (CBCT) is a newer technique producing reconstructed images of high diagnostic quality using lower radiation doses and higher resolution than normal CT. To evaluate the pathological changes of the TMJ on CBCT, the knowledge of normal anatomy of TMJ on CBCT is neccessary. The purpose of this study is to describe the anatomical characteristics of temporomandibular joint in adult Vietnamese with normal function of temporomandibular joint by cone beam computed tomography (CBCT).
