Objectives: To evaluate the prevalence of the Angle class I malocclusion in a medical student group aged 18 - 25 years old and to assess the characteristics of the Angle class I malocclusion. Materials and Methods: The study included 100 students (57 males and 43 females) aged 18 to 25 years old. The clinical examinations were performed and the dental casts were analysed. The skeletal and dental characteristics associated with Class I malocclusion were evaluated. The overbite, overjet and depth of curve of Spee was measured. Results: Among the types of malocclusion, 51 percent of the subjects had a Class I molar relationship. More than 62 percent of the subjects demonstrated canine class I malocclusion. The average overjet and overbite of the subjects were 2.37 +/- 1.00 mm and 2.72 +/- 0.72 mm respectively. The depth of curve of Spee was 2.34 +/- 0.32 mm on the right side and 2.30 +/- 0.34 mm on the left side.
