
Purpose: To assess the initial results of bipolar resection of the prostate in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia in No.103 hospital. Patients and Methods: A desciptive cross-sectional study was performed on 52 patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia who underwent bipolar resection of the prostate from February 2011 to December 2012; the main examed criteria were IPSS, QoL score and Qmax. Results: Mean operation time 63.28 min, mean hospital stay 6.43 days, mean catheterization time 4.12 days; clinical symptoms and uroflow index improved significantly in which postoperative Qmax increased by 9.1 mils on average; 1-month efficacy of treatment: excellent, good, fair and poor were 62.2 percent, 18.6 percent, 14.1 percent va 5.1 percent, respectively. Conclusions: There were good initial results in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia by bipolar transurethral resection of the prostate in No.103 hospital.
