Objective: To study the preliminary effects and safety of transarterial radioembolization with yttrium 90- micropheres for treatment of HCC. Subject and method: A prospective study involved 13 HCC patients (mean tumor size: 73.4 :t 21.5mm) underwent transarterial radioembolization with yttrium 90- micropheres at the No.108 Military Hospital, from October 2013 to December 2014. Tumor responses were assessed at 3 month after the first procedure according to modified RECIST. Postembolization syndrome and complications were also recorded. Result: A total 13 procedures were successful performed. The objective response rate according to modified RECIST was 92.29 percent at 3 month. Serum AFP levels were decreased 46.15 percent after treatment. Postembolization syndrome was observed in 30.77 percent of cases but mild and recovered without any treatment. No cases have encountered complications and mortality related to engineering. Conclusions: Transarterial radioembolization with yttrium90- micropheres is safe and effective treatment for patients with HCC.
