Nowaday, rheumatic mitral valve disease is still an importance cause of heart failure in developing countries. BNP is a cardiac hormon secreated from ventricular myocardium as a response to vetricular volume and pressure overload. In Viet Nam, the role of BNP was known in heart failure, ischemic heart disease, but no previous study has conducted in rheumatic mitral valve disease.Aims:to assess BNP levels in patients with mitral valve disease and correlation with clinical and echocardiographic. Methods:61 patients with rheumatic mitral valve disease were examined clinically, transthoracic echocardiography to assess the severity of valve lesions and some other indexes, measure BNP concentrations by immunofluorescence method. Results: BNP concentration was associated with degree of heart failure, mitral valve lesions, negative correlation with mitral valve area (r = - 0,337), LV ejection fraction (r = -0,451), positive correlation with LA diameter (r = 0,543), LV end diastolic diameter (r= 0,515), systolic pulmonary arterial pressure (r = 0,486), but no correlation with gende and artrial fibrillation.Conlusions: in rheumatic mitral valve disease, BNP may be used as a biomarker of severity of valve lesions and disease progression.
