
Objectives: To describe cancer mortality by ICD-10 in general population of Can Tho city, 2005-2008. Methods: Descriptive cancer epidemiology was applied. Data was collected by three rounds in developing list of cases for 2005-2006, 2007 and 2008. Results: Three cancer sites were responsible for 72.6 percent of male and 42.2 percent of female cancer. Agestandardized cancer mortality rates (ASR) were 79.5/100.000 in male and 54.7/100.000 in female. The leading cancer was liver (ASR 31.9/100.000 in male and 11.2/100.000 in female); followed by lung (ASR 20.2/100.000 in male and 7.0/100.000 in female) and stomach (ASR 7.1/100.000 in male and 5,0/100.000 in female). Conclusions: Cancer mortality was a serious problem in both males and females with male to female ration was 1.5.
